Smile has been awarded a telecoms license in South Africa, where it can run a trial network in Nigeria, DRC and Uganda. Also, Smile Communications Nigeria Ltd. is been licensed by the National Broadcasting Commission to operate a broadcasting station (MMDS), cable television.
Smile Communications won a telecoms license in Uganda in April 2008. Smile plans to offer free telephone numbers and voice message boxes to customers, whether they own a handset or not.
